Hello I'm Marcel and I code websites
Marcel Timmer
Welcome to my website, I'm Marcel Timmer. Born in a scenic place in the Netherlands in '81, I now live near Amsterdam. I'm married and father of two sons and a daughter. This website tells my experiences and thoughts on both a personal and a professional level. I have a professional career as a program manager at Sonion's R&D headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I have a strong background in mechanical engineering, having a higher vocational education and university degree in engineering. When I'm out of the office you'll probably find me sitting behind my laptop coding for one of my Internet projects.
Webdesign
As I was born and raised in Zutphen, I spent much of my time on my mechanical engineering study, not knowing what great pleasure Internet had to offer me. It was not until the mid 90's that I bought my very own computer.
My interest for HTML programming started around 1999. Inspired by some interesting articles by Eric Meyer and Jeffrey Zeldman things started to get more serious, using CSS and making my websites comply with the STRICT-DTD of the W3C guidelines. One of the beste examples of my recent work is www.dailyoffers.nl, which is a project I started during the cold spring evenings of 2007 when I was living in Washington DC. The website was sold in 2009. Please contact me if you want to receive my full portfolio.
Over the years I tried to master a great variety of programming languages. I also have experience with both Mambo and Joomla. I have limited the number of programming languages to be used in my work to a wonderful package consisting of: HTML, JavaScript and PHP. My work is not always revolutionary, though it is robust and transparent. I made about 20 professional corporate or government websites, apart from various other Internet related projects. During the recent years I based most of my work on basic PHP coding.
Kind regards, Marcel Timmer
By the way, if you think this website looks pretty simple and lacks interesting stuff: yes, that isn't available to the public. You need a bit of magic to enable the full contents of this website. Sorry.
